He was diagnosed with cancer in 2006; however, his cause of death is still unclear.
The talented designer, who is known for creating some of the most gorgeous pieces of attire for celebrities and famous faces around the world over the last 50 years, most recently designed Amal Alamuddin Clooney‘s wedding gown and was featured in Vogue magazine with the bride during a fitting.
But Alamuddin’s gown is just one of the many much-talked about pieces the iconic de la Renta created in his lifetime.
Many of the celebrities who have been lucky enough to either wear his famous brand or become acquainted with his creations are speaking out to mourn the fashion industry’s great loss:
