Amanda Bynes is backtracking on her statements after audio tapes of her threatening to murder her parents leaked over the weekend.

In the disturbing clips allegedly recorded by Bynes’ roommates, the former Nickelodeon rants about murdering her father, slitting her mother’s wrists, and burning down their home. Now that many — including the actress’ family — have heard the tapes, Bynes is apologizing for wishing death upon her parents.

“I’m sorry I trusted people who clearly were not my friends and capitalized on my illness. I am doing my best to get better. I am truly sorry for the statements I made. I am sorry for any pain I caused my family and others,” Bynes says in a statement released to Access Hollywood by her attorney, David Esquibias. “I am thankful for everyone’s patience and understanding. I never expected others to take advantage and profit from my condition. I’m disappointed with those who lulled me into a false sense of security only to find out they really are only interested in selling my privacy to the media.”

Bynes has since also tweeted about the leaked recordings, writing:

In the past week, Bynes has been very open about her distain for her parents, Rick Bynes and Lynn Organ. In a series of tweets, the 28-year-old accuses them of withholding her fortune and not providing her a place to stay after she was released from rehab, despite the fact that the two have been giving the troubled starlet a daily allowance via America Express gift cards and booking her a room at a Glendale, Calif., hotel.

On Nov. 6, Bynes’ parents surrendered their conservatorship, allowing the court to appoint someone else to watch over their daughter’s well-being and finances.
