Looking unreasonably pale with his dark hair slicked back, the 40-year-old actor (whose birthday is today) is completely naked, holding up a pair of tan trousers over his man bits with a jacket draped over his shoulder and a pair of white platform shoes placed beside him–a very 70s feel the photographer was going for.
And speaking of the photographer, what exactly was his goal in transforming Cooper to a point we barely recognize him?
“The photographer Tim Walker was influenced by the colorful, sun-drenched Los Angeles paintings and photographs of David Hockney, as well as the ’70s free-love aesthetic that informs the artist’s work,” states the mag. “From there, the photographic scenarios took cues from Federico Fellini and, naturally, Walker’s own unique perspective.”
Cooper was just one of 39 actors and actresses Walker transformed into clown-like, circus characters–all beautifully reminiscent of their roles that granted them a spot on the magazine’s list of Best Performances for the 2015 awards season.
“Remarkably, all the actors and actresses were excited to play, to be transformed, to embrace personae that were extreme, odd, and truly fascinating,” the editor explains.
