Bobby Brown appeared on stage last night (April 11, 2015) at the Kinfolks Soul Food Festival near downtown Los Angeles.
It was his first public appearance since his daughter with the late Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina Brown, was found unresponsive in her bathtub on January 31, 2015, and the first time he’s left her bedside.
Bobbi Kristina, 22, has remained on life support and in a medically-induced coma in an Atlanta hospital ever since.
Attending the festival with his pregnant wife Alicia Etheredge-Brown and their young son Cassius, he sang hits like “My Prerogative” and “Roni.” The couple also had a booth selling chicken, sausage and spices under his label Bobby Brown Foods.
The 46-year-old told the crowd in an emotional speech,
I must tell you all, this feels really, really, really good. I wanna thank all of y’all for coming out tonight and supporting me and my family. Rough times are rough times. Hard times are hard times. I don’t know what the hell I’m going through right now, but I’m giving it to God and letting him deal with it.
In good spirits, he added, “There’s only one thing I ask of y’all tonight, just enjoy yourselves tonight.”
After his performance, Brown posed for photos with fans.
He had previously made a commitment to appear at the festival. When asked if he would have backed out of performing if the festival organizer’s had let him, Brown insisted, “I don’t back out of a performance.”
Immediately following his performance, the New Edition singer said he was headed back to Atlanta.
Etheredge-Brown, who is due in July, told People the family is “doing as well as you’d expect.”
Brown reportedly has some other performance obligations in Australia in May that were scheduled prior to Bobbi Kristina’s hospitalization.
