Leto has bright lime green hair, a flurry of scary tattoos on his pale white body, a purple glove on one hand, a mouthful of chrome-capped teeth and a maniacal, wide-eyed look on his face in this new photo of the Clown Prince of Crime.

Director David Ayer made the big reveal for fans in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the DC Comics villain (the Batman foe made his first appearance in the beloved comic series on April 25, 2940).

The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman and crazy hot Oscar-winning actor (for Dallas Buyers Club, 2013) might not be melting our hearts with this photo (as he did in his portrayal of ’90s teen heartthrob Jordan Catalano in My So-Called Life), but he will surely do the legendary role justice.
The role of the joker has previously been portrayed by Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton‘s Batman (1989), and by the late Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight (2008), for which he posthumously won an Oscar.
Production for the film, in which “a secret government agency recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency” (IMDb), began this month.
