In the June/July 2015 issue of Seventeen, the singer says she has no ill will towards her ex-boyfriend. Denying the existence of an alleged love triangle between the her former beau and his current squeeze, Becky G, Cabello reflects fondly on her relationship with Mahone.
“I don’t regret anything. It was my first kiss, my first love,” she says. “It’s important to learn about liking somebody and being swept away, but it wasn’t meant to be.”
Cabello, 18, and Mahone 19, who initially met at the 2013 MTV video Music Awards, confirmed they were dating in November 2014. Weeks later, Cabello announced that they had split, citing that “things happen.”
While Mahone has since moved on with Becky G, Cabello remains positive about the dating scene.
“I’ll find somebody else,” she tells the magazine, admitting she’s a hopeless romantic. “It’s a cycle. I love love. I’m, like, obsessed with it.”
In the same issue, Cabello’s bandmates also dish about the importance of staying confident and being happy with yourself.
“It’s really important to look at yourself in the mirror and have a conversation,” Fifth Harmony’s Normani Kordei says. “Tell yourself you’re beautiful every single day. Even if you’re not feeling that great in an outfit, but you like how your hair looks, focus on that. The only person holding you back is you.”
Lauren Jauregui adds, “Women are often made to feel like they have to be a certain type of girl, but you can be anything you want to be.”
