Jason Derulo Talks Jordin Sparks Breakup: ‘It’s So Behind Me’

Jason Derulo doesn’t have anything bad to say about his ex-girlfriend Jordin Sparks, but he doesn’t have anything necessarily nice to say about her either.

Derulo and Sparks dated for three years before their nasty breakup last year.

Derulo, who’s featured on the cover of Billboard, told the magazine that when it comes to the breakup, “I do get tired of playing nice. Especially when people think I did something wrong, or that she broke up with me. But it’s so behind me.”

The 25-year-old was perhaps referring to that time Sparks went on the air saying Derulo had leased, not bought, the BMW he gifted her. In response, he posted (and then deleted) the bill of sale to Instagram.

Putting their relationship behind him doesn’t exactly mean they’re on good terms, however. Derulo also made an interesting comment, without elaborating, about celebrities who date as a publicity stunt: “That happens all the time.”

The state of his current love life is “A deck of cards,” he says, with a laugh and a slap of the table. Nonetheless, he’s “having a good time getting to know people.”

Additionally, he thinks Tinder looks fun, but could get creepy really fast for a celebrity like him: “It’d be like, ‘A million new requests today!’ That’s just wrong.”

As for what it would take for him to get back into a relationship with someone? “A miracle.” Derulo, who’s notorious for his abs and a fitness enthusiast, does unsurprisingly think that the gym is the best place to meet women.

So laaaadiesssss, “he prefers the chic Equinox in L.A.’s Encino neighborhood,” according to Billboard.

That being said, Derulo is one of those musicians who is completely married to his work, so good luck getting him out of the studio. “You can’t pull me out of the studio,” he said, noting that he and his collaborators wrote over 100 tracks for his new album.

“Songwriting is a muscle,” he added, seemingly with a smile. “The more you do it, the better you get at it.”
