Never has a prison jumpsuit looked so good on anyone…
Litchfield has a sexy new resident in their midst on this season of Orange Is the New Black, played by the irresistible Ruby Rose. If you don’t know who Rose is yet, well then buckle up and enjoy the ride, because she is poised to be this summer’s hottest breakout actress (and forever and always in our hearts, too).
Rose is a 29-year-old Australian model, MTV VJ and actress who joins Season 3 of your favorite Netflix show (all 14 episodes premiere today!!) as Piper Chapman’s (Taylor Schilling) new love interest, coquettishly rocking the boat between Piper and her kickass, drug-smuggling ex-girlfriend/everyone’s favorite character, Alex Vause (Laura Prepon).
Her name is Stella Carlin, and up until the season’s release, we’ve only seen a little bit of her in the trailers. Nevertheless, it’s already safe to say that she is everything. Who can compete with that undercut and that wink?! No one.
In real life, Rose is just as sizzling and swoonworthy, and we imagine she’s probably the coolest girl you’ll ever meet. She’s totally not single though, to the collective sigh of us all.
On snagging a role in the super diverse and progressive TV show, Rose poignantly told Rolling Stone,
Especially for someone in the LGBT community, I don’t think there’s been a show that’s so true about the experience of being gay or lesbian or trans. It’s helping a lot of people discover who they are. And I think that’s magic — you don’t get that a lot on TV.
[Mark Seliger for Rolling Stone]
As for how she feels getting casted in OITNB as a model, Rose explained,
“Model.” I don’t think of myself as a model. I’m genderqueer, and I’ve got tattoos. Since I got the part some people have asked me what it’s like to be the hottest girl on the show, and I’m like, “What? That’s not true, at all.” Every single woman on that show is so sexy — it’s really kind of crazy.
Poussey is such a babe. Alex is out of control. Nicky has a thing about her. Every one of these girls has different sex appeal, whether they’re vulnerable, or whatever it is. I have a crush on every single person on the show, much to my fiancée’s amusement. And then when you get to know them off camera it’s even worse because they’re so talented, so nice, so funny; I’ve never laughed so hard in my life. I wish I could be as beautiful as them.
We totally agree, and just wish we could hang out with Rose and the other OITNB ladies at a bar, period!
Last July, Rose made an incredible short film about gender fluidity entitled “Break Free.” Since debuting it, it has been shared over 338,000 times on Facebook, and watched by over 3.5 million people on Youtube. She described the video as, “A short film about gender roles, Trans, and what it is like to have an identity that deviates from the status quo.”
A few days later, she commented on bullying within the LGBT community, stating on her Facebook,
You know what needs to stop just as much as homophobia, bullying within the LGBT Community… A ‘bisexual’ isn’t just greedy.. ‘Pansexual’ exists and isn’t a cop out.. ‘Straight’ people can be gay huge advocates and blessings to the community… you can identify as trans without surgery, you can be gender fluid… in fact guess what… you can be whoever you are and like whoever you like and WE should spread the love and acceptance we constantly say we don’t receive.
The entire season of Orange Is the New Black will be released at 3 a.m. EST and midnight Pacific time on June 12, 2015.
