Don’t blame the rattail.
That Shia LaBeouf rapping video everyone’s been sharing with you might not be so impressive after all.
Over the weekend, the 29-year-old actor made headlines after an undated video of him freestyle rapping at a campsite surfaced. Between being shirtless and his seemingly random acts of creativity, the video was pretty easy to love.
But because the Internet age demands that everything be shared and overanalyzed and torn apart, it appears that the one they call LaBeouf has been called out for the act of stealing.
According to a representative for the ’90s female rap group Anomolies, LaBeouf’s now viral video actually borrows a few lines from the group’s 1999 track “Perfectionist.”
Shia Lebouf straight stole bars from the song "Perfectionist", written, recorded and performed by my ANOMOLIES crew members @invincibledet and @helixxwashere in 1999! Over a DECADE ago! We are battle MCs! Step into the arena! This is straight disrespect to lyricism. #shialabeouf #DopeRhymeTaker #MCsActLikeTheyDontKnow #RappersAreInDanger #HipHop101 #Emcee #MC #Lyricist #HipHop #SpiderMan #YourFreestyleAintFree #MySpidySensesAreTingling #WeBattleMCs #anomoliesrepresentitive
Here’s a visual comparison to rub it all in:
LaBeouf has yet to respond (in rap form or non-rap form). Last week, the actor suffered a head injury on the set of his new film American Honey.
