“I love my ex-girlfriend, I always will,” he reveals. “It was an amicable, mutual decision, and we still talk every now and then, but the highly-publicized thing made me uncomfortable.”
The singer notes that he started to lose his sense of self in the relationship, and it wasn’t coinciding with the goals he set forward for himself.
“Going out to dinner and there being all this paparazzi and stuff… as soon as we split I had the realization that I was straying away from who I was as a whole person,” he adds. “I want to keep it low-key, and focus on my music.”
Just last week the “Free” singer says that he and Hadid still maintain a friendship.
“We talk every now and then, but people grow in different ways and separate, you know?” He revealed. “We’ll never have any animosity between us, as it should be, and I want to be supportive of her. We’re just on different paths right now.”
