Yes, Ryan Gosling has been a DILF for almost a year.
Eva Mendes, who essentially became the most envied woman on Earth when she gave birth to the actor’s first child, recently revealed why they chose to name their daughter Esmeralda. Speaking with Wendy Williams on her talk show, the Lost River actress said that it was a name she and Gosling were both drawn to.
“We love The Hunchback of Notre Dame, we loved the name, the cartoon and the novel … it just kind of kept coming back to us,” Mendes, 41, explained. “It’s actually a very popular Latin name, so it’s easy for my father and certain family members that still don’t speak English to pronounce. That was a good selling point.”
Esmeralda’s middle name is “Amada,” which means “beloved” in Spanish and is also the name of Mendes’ character in 2007’s We Own the Night.
Mendes and Gosling, 34, welcomed Esmeralda on Sept. 22, 2014 at the Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif. Neither parents ever confirmed the baby news throughout Mendes’ pregnancy.
In fact, the couple even managed to make it through their daughter’s first year without ever letting the paparazzi take a photo of their baby. The notoriously private twosome reportedly celebrated Esmeralda’s first birthday on Sept. 12 with a low-key party at their Los Angeles home surrounded by close friends and family.
“It was a quiet and casual party, not the typical celebrity first birthday blowout with vendors and other celebrity guests,” a source told Us Weekly, adding that Gosling’s sister brought a homemade cake for the occasion. “It looked like it was just their simple style and more about family and close friends coming together to celebrate Esmeralda.”
