According to the 39-year-old, he first met the reality star back in 2006 when Kardashian, 34, was working for Paris Hilton. The duo reportedly connected while Barker was on tour with +44 and stayed in touched stateside as both of them were living in Calabasas, Calif.
For Barker, he was instantly attracted to her.
“Kim was Paris’ assistant,” he tells Us Weekly. “She got all of Paris’ belongings together wherever we traveled.
“How could you not stare at Kim? Mind you, I enjoyed hanging out with Paris, but I love curvy girls,” Barker continues. “Kim was eye candy. I was no way disrespectful to Paris, but I couldn’t keep my eyes off Kim!”
So, did he ever ask Kardashian out? Despite that they would often “go out to eat” and “just hang out,” Barker insists their relationship was a platonic one.
“I had a crush on her and we were flirtatious but nothing ever happened,” he admits, adding that “there’s no awkwardness” between them to this day. “She was so kind and polite, I just felt like being a perfect gentleman around her. It was a trip!”
While nothing ever did happen between the two, Barker, who had his own reality series with ex-wife Shanna Moakler in 2005, says he did give Kardashian advice when she was just starting out on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
“Kim was like, ‘I really want to do this reality show. We’re supposed to do it with Ryan Seacrest. I just think my family’s interesting,” he explains. “I gave her the best advice I could but I still remember the conversation like yesterday: ‘I think my family is interesting and it could be something.’ Well, you were absolutely right!”
