Turns out, she didn’t realize she’d be taking on the lead role while she was writing it, and the thought of stripping down made her a little nervous.
The 40-year-old actress opened up to The New York Times about her internal struggle, saying, “There were lots of scenes I wanted to change or cut,” she said. “I realized it was going to be me [naked] in that bathtub.”
Jolie eventually came to terms with it, and made the decision to go forward with the scenes. “I told myself, ‘Put all of that aside.’ Like, you can’t change or cut this scene because you’ve had a mastectomy, or because we’re married and people are going to analyze this or that. That would be cheating.”
Jolie has already spoken out about the movie’s storyline, which follows a troubled and abusive couple, saying it couldn’t be further from what her marriage with Brad Pitt is like. “I’m counting on the audience to know that if it was close to us at all, we could never make this film,” she told the Today Show. “It’s because we’re actually very, very stable and these aren’t our issues.”
Jolie also talked about what it was like having her son Maddox working on set. “He’d be there for the lighter scenes or funnier ones, but obviously we had a rule that for certain scenes he was on lockdown, not on set,” she said.
Angie and Brad looked very in love at last night’s (Nov. 3) screening of By the Sea in New York City. Angelina wore a beautiful blue gown for the occasion.
