Here’s another accolade to add to her growing collection.
Caitlyn Jenner was named Barbara Walters‘ most fascinating person of 2015 during her Most Fascinating People special Thursday night on NBC. Walters honored Jenner’s past as an Olympic gold medalist, where the reality star’s road to notoriety began.
“Our choice for the most fascinating person of the year was once called the world’s greatest athlete,” says Walters. “Traditionally, that title was given to the man who won the Olympic decathlon. When Bruce Jenner won it in 1976, it was a huge accomplishment. It had everybody talking. But it was nothing like this.”
“When Bruce Jenner became Caitlyn Jenner, there was a seismic shift in the gender universe.”
In lieu of an interview, Jenner was honored with a montage of her achievements over the past year and clips from her reality show I Am Cait. “Famous and familiar, she raised awareness and acceptance of transgendered people,” concluded Walters. “Through her own transformation, Caitlyn Jenner transformed society this year, and that, for us, makes her the most fascinating person of 2015.”
Among Walters’ most fascinating people of the year were Amy Schumer, Misty Copeland, Bradley Cooper, and rebounding comedian Tracy Morgan. Launch the gallery at the top of the page to view photos of Jenner at the 2015 Glamour’s Women of the Year event.
