It’s a sad day in the music world as David Bowie has passed away just days after celebrating his birthday.
The legendary singer, who had a music career spanning over four decades, died after battling cancer for over a year. The news came from Bowie’s various social media accounts as well as his official website.
“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief,” a statement provided read, citing Sunday (Jan. 10, 2016) as the date of death.

Bowie, whose many hits included “Let’s Dance,” “Heroes,” “Changes,” and “Under Pressure,” was 69.
