This actor has some big shoes to fill!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alden Ehrenreich has been cast as young Han Solo for a standalone Star Wars film. He’s taking over one of modern cinema’s most well-known roles as the charming and reckless smuggler made famous by Harrison Ford in the original Star Wars trilogy.

Since Chewbacca is getting a new partner in crime, we decided to learn a little bit more about Mr. Ehrenreich. So, here’s some info on the rising star…

Alden is a native Angelino; he attended New York University, however he didn’t graduate. While there, he started a collaborative performing arts group called The Collectin, which put on numerous productions in New York and LA.

In 2005, Ehrenreich was discovered by none other than Steven Spielberg, who saw a short video of him at a bat mitzvah reception. Ehrenreich quickly landed minor parts in Supernatural and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In a few years, the young actor landed the role of Benny in Francis Ford Coppola’s Tetro opposite Vincent Gallo. The two played brothers attempting to reconnect in Argentina.

He followed that up by starring in 2012’s Beautiful Creatures as the lead opposite Alice Englert. Ehrenreich played a small-town teen in the South who falls for a girl with specials powers.

Afterward, he continued to build his résumé performing in the thriller Stoker, the Woody Allen film Blue Jasmine and more recently in the Coen Brothers’ Hollywood sendup, Hail, Caesar!

Soon he’ll be wearing the iconic vest and gallivanting across the galaxy, but now you know a bit more about this soon-to-be A-lister!
