The 30-year-old actress is striking back after being accused of manipulating her estranged husband.
The court filing states that Stanhope “orchestrated a plot to write an article, which was published at TheWrap.com, which falsely accuses plaintiff Amber Heard of ‘blackmail’ and other criminal behavior towards her husband, Johnny Depp, from whom she is seeking a divorce.”
The filing goes on to state that the accusations are “completely false and defamatory.”
In a statement to People, Heard’s lawyer Charles J. Harder says the actress is seeking the “maximum possibly jury award” and will donate it to a domestic violence charity in Arizona, where Stanhope lives and the suit was filed.
The court filing also elaborates on the alleged domestic violence at the center of this divorce.
“Depp has hit and kicked Heard on numerous occasions, has thrown objects at her, at one point suffocated her to the point where she feared for her life,” according to documents obtained by People.
In the guest column Stanhope wrote for TheWrap, he claims that Depp was distraught on Saturday because he knew Heard was planning to leave him.
“[My girlfriend] and I were at Johnny’s house for most of that Saturday until just before the alleged assault,” Stanhope wrote. “We assumed initially that his dour mood was because of his mother’s death the day before. But he opened up in the most vulnerable of ways that it was not only his mother, but that Amber was now going to leave him, threatening to lie about him publicly in any and every possible duplicitous way if he didn’t agree to her terms. Blackmail is what I would imagine other people might put it, including the manner in which he is now being vilified.”
