Meet your new Miss USA!
The search for the amazing woman to represent the United States in the Miss Universe 2016 has come to an end, as Miss District of Colombia, Deshauna Barber has been crowned Miss USA 2016. The 26-year-old, a serving U.S. Army officer and an IT analyst at the U.S. Department of Commerce, took home the prestigious title on Sunday night (June 5, 2016) in Las Vegas, Nev.
Described as one of the most disciplined contestants of the year, the new Miss USA wowed the judges and received rounds of applause from the audience during her Q&A.
“As a woman in the United States Army,” she began, “I think it was an amazing job by our government to allow women to integrate into every branch of the military. We are just as tough as men. As a commander of my unit, I am powerful. I am dedicated. And it is important that we recognize that gender does not limit us in the United States.”
