Jared Padalecki has revealed the Sam Winchester’s fate.
Supernatural fans were left wondering what happened to the beloved hunter at the end of Season 11 when Lady Toni (Elizabeth Blackmore) fired a shot from a gun pointed at Sam, who was curiously off-screen. Though it was unclear at the time if the bullet hit Sam, the answer to that mystery was recently revealed by Padalecki himself.
“She shot him,” the actor told TVLine at the Saturn Awards on Wednesday (June 22, 2016). “I don’t know where, but I know she shot him.”
Though Sam is alive, Padalecki teased that his character is far from fine this upcoming season.
“What else is new — Sam gets injured,” he said with a laugh. “At least I’m not getting tortured — yet.”
As for the other cliffhanger regarding Dean (Jensen Ackles) and his newly resurrected mother, viewers are in for a treat.
“I’m anxious to see how that [surprise return] pans out,” said Ackles. “[My reaction] was kind of like, ‘What’s going to happen now? How is this going to work out?'”
“I love [Mary’s portrayer] Samantha Smith. So I was like, ‘We get Sam back! That’s awesome!'” Padalecki added of the twist. “My reaction as a fan of the show was, ‘What a cool show to be a part of where we can do that and get away with it.’ [That] and I was just really stoked.”
Supernatural is slated to return on Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
