The Spanish actor is about to portray a fashion legend.
Antonio Banderas is slated to play fashion house founder and designer Gianni Versace in a forthcoming biopic, according to director Bille August, who made the announcement to WWD while attending the Ischia Global Film & Music Festival.
Although details on the film’s script are scarce, the fashion label itself stated it “has neither authorized nor had any involvement whatsoever in the forthcoming movie about Versace. The movie should only be seen as a work of fiction.”
This role is likely why the 55-year-old actor has been studying fashion at London’s Central Saint Martins since last year.
The film will start production in Milan in Dec., then head to Reggio Calabria where the fashion icon was born, and then conclude in Miami where he was killed in 1997.
