Negan always seems to be one step ahead of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his people in the season six finale of The Walking Dead. However, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the actor behind the ruthless new baddie, admitted to Entertainment Weekly that even he didn’t know who Negan’s victim was in that jaw-dropping cliffhanger.
“I certainly didn’t know. I’ve seen interviews where Norman [Reedus] has said, ‘I know,’ but I honestly don’t know that anybody really knew what was going to happen until the first script came out,” Morgan told EW. “Maybe during the summer people found out some stuff. I didn’t find out whom we were going to kill until I saw the first script coming back this year.”
The 50-year-old actor went on to reinforce what many cast and crew members have already shared concerning the upcoming season: Negan is a game-changer.
“And that ending — or this beginning, I should say — is jarring.” Morgan said. “It’s a reset on The Walking Dead world and it’s fucking Negan’s world now, you know? It’s a lot.”
As for the fan backlash following last season’s ending, Morgan is convinced that those fans who cried foul are going to be watching closely and they may not like how things turn out…
“I think by the time October rolls around all those people who are like, ‘I’m never watching Walking Dead again. I feel cheated,’ they’re going to be the first ones lined up in front of their television,” he said. “And I’ll say this, you have to be careful what you wish for, audience, because you’re going to get those answers answered and more, and you’re probably not going to be happy with it.”
