According to the reality star, he needed someone who wasn’t a part of his famous family during his darkest times. Though he now appreciates having his mother and sisters there for him, he credits Chyna, who’s currently pregnant with their first child together, as the person who impacted his life the most.
“Sometimes your family can’t get you out of the worst place that I was in,” Kardashian says in an interview with On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Thursday (Sept. 8, 2016). “I needed an outsider to help me. I couldn’t do it all myself.”
“Chyna helped me through my rough time. I was uncomfortable in my skin, just trying to get over that uncomfortable feeling. She really helped me get past that [feeling of] being judged,” he continues, adding that it was difficult to open up to his family after his relationship with Chyna became a romantic one. “I couldn’t really feel comfortable about talking to any of my family members obviously about the situation. It was very, very complicated. But my happiness outweighed everything honestly at that point in my life.”
Though Kardashian’s sister didn’t initially take too well to Chyna being with their brother after she had dated Kylie Jenner‘s current boyfriend, things between the bride-to-be and Kardashian’s clan have all been smoothed out. During the interview, the 29-year-old shuts down rumors that he’s only with Chyna to get back at his siblings.
“There’s no beef between anybody,” he shares, before adding, “Never in a million years would I have a child out of spite.”
Kardashian also reveals that he has set a wedding date with Chyna, saying, “First, have a healthy baby, then hopefully a beautiful wedding. But obviously the baby comes first.”
However, like with all couples, Kardashian and Chyna have their ups and downs too. In new clips for their upcoming E! series, Rob & Chyna, the twosome fight about privacy (after Kardashian is caught snooping on Chyna’s phone) and struggle with Kardashian’s body image.
“I don’t even understand why Rob would even think that I’m doing anything wrong. I’m four months pregnant,” Chyna vents. “I literally don’t leave the house, so what could I be possibly doing?”
