Melissa Etheridge revealed what happened after she commented on the split between her old friend, Brad Pitt, and Angelina Jolie, in which Etheridge sort of slams Jolie for how she’s handling the divorce.
Earlier this week, Etheridge told Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM radio show that she knows firsthand how rough divorce can be, especially when there are children involved, and she didn’t like how Jolie was handing it so publicly.
“It breaks my heart that anyone would take something as personal as your marriage and your relationship and your rights to your children and do it as purposefully as I see it’s being done,” said Etheridge at the time.
Making an appearance on Watch What Happens Liveon Wednesday (Oct. 5, 2016), the singer told Cohen that Jolie’s legal team contacted her. “There are people whose job it is to kind of fix things for celebrities.”
The singer added, “I haven’t spoken to Brad in forever. Every time I say something it gets turned around and twisted and all of a sudden I’m saying something about [Angelina]… so I thought I would do what I do best, and I wrote a song about it today.”
She then sang “The Fixer Blues,” in the dressing room at the show. “Seems I said some things about an old, old, old friend that got some people talking,” sang Etheridge. “Well, I know broken hearts, a thing or two about divorce, I’ve been there before once — okay, twice. And I have not seen my friend in over 10 years and I swear I have never, ever, ever, ever, ever met his wife.”
Before wrapping up the song, she sang a very special message. “So the moral of this story is: Divorce is a b*tch and nobody wins. Let’s not do unto others and please forgive us our sins, life is too hard anyway. So when you chatting with Andy, you better watch what you say.”
In other Jolie news, her older brother, James Haven, is reportedly playing manny to the six Jolie-Pitt kids – Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10 and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8 – as they reside in their temporary home in Malibu.
“He took on a more active daily role in June,” a source explained to Us Weekly. “The kids call him ‘Uncle James.’”
As previously reported, Jolie is also in therapy with the kids. The source told People, “It’s been a traumatic situation.”
