According to Fox News, NBC made the announcement to staffers on Monday (Oct. 17, 2016). “Billy Bush will be leaving the Today show’s 9 am hour, effective today. While he was a new member of the Today team, he was a valued colleague and longtime member of the broader NBC family. We wish him success as he goes forward.”
Bush was suspended from Today following the leak, and it was reported his reps and NBC began working out a settlement deal for his exit. The settlement with NBC did not include a non-compete clause, meaning Bush “is a free agent,” his lawyer told the Associated Press.
The TV host has apologized for the tape, and said in the note announcing his departure that he was “deeply grateful for the conversations I’ve had with my daughters, and for all of the support from family, friends and colleagues. I look forward to what lies ahead.”
