According to Entertainment Tonight, Hayek appeared on a Spanish-language radio program called El Show del Mandril on Radio Centro in Los Angeles Friday night (Oct. 21, 2016).
The actress began by speaking generally about why she believes a Trump presidency would be bad for the Hispanic community. Then, she told a story about the time the candidate tried to date her.
“When I met that man, I had a boyfriend, and he tried to become his friend to get my home telephone number,” Hayek said. Trump succeeded in getting her number, and Hayek says he called to ask her out. She gave him an unequivocal no.
“When I told him I wouldn’t go out with him even if I didn’t have a boyfriend, he called—well, he wouldn’t say he called, but someone told the National Enquirer,” Hayek went on.
The story in the Enquirer, Hayek says, claimed Trump refused to go out with her because she was “too short.” If that isn’t ridiculous enough, Hayek says Trump then tried to use the story to ask her out again.
“Later, he called and left me a message. ‘Can you believe this? Who would say this? I don’t want people to think this about you,’ He thought that I would try to go out with him so people wouldn’t think that’s why he wouldn’t go out with me,” Hayek told the Radio Centro host.
Hayek has been vocal in her criticism of Trump. According to a report by Buzzfeed, the actress spoke earlier in the interview about the candidate’s plans to stop Mexican-Americans from sending money to their families if Mexico refused to pay for the border wall.
