It’s been 10 months since Céline Dion‘s long-time manager and husband, René Angélilpassed away after a long battle with cancer, but he is still receiving accolades for his impressive career in the music industry.
Last night (Oct. 30, 2016), Dion attended the Adisq Gala in Quebec where she accepted an award in honor of her late husband. After giving an emotional performance of “My Heart Will Go On,” Dion was met with a standing ovation as she took the stage to accept the Félix trophy.
In her speech, Dion revealed Angélil was, “not only one of the greatest visionaries of the Quebec music industry. He was also one of the biggest fans of musical artists that ever existed. He had an immense respect for people who had that passion. René always thought of others before he thought of himself.”
Once backstage, Dion said accepting an award on her late husband’s behalf was an even bigger honor than the countless awards she’s won over the years. ‘Of course, it was a great honor for me to receive trophies over the years, but to be here to receive a trophy that’s not for me, that’s even more touching.”
“He’s not physically present, but I’m sure he’s here tonight,” she continued. “I don’t think he missed any of this, and I’m sure he’s very proud.”
