Jennifer Lopez has had several notable fashion moments in her career, but her favorite is one very few people knew about, until now.
During a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar about her upcoming shoe collaboration with Giuseppe Zanotti, Lopez explained she likes to archive her clothing as they help take her back in time. “If you hear a song from a certain time and you’re like, ‘Oh, my God!,’ it takes you back to that period in your life,” the cover star said.
“I do the same thing with my closet. I walk in and I see a hat or a pair of shoes or a coat, and I go, ‘Wow! I remember I was wearing that the day this happened, or I was walking down the street; or I heard this or my mom said that, or my boyfriend …’ You know what I mean? ‘And I was dating so-and-so …'”
While everyone has a favorite Lopez outfit (green dress anyone?), the look that has the most sentimental value to the singer is from the day she gave birth to her twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony. The outfit of choice was not scrubs. “It was in the middle of a snowstorm, and I wore this big white fur coat,” Lopez remembered. “I was huge, and it was the only coat that would fit me. Every time I see that coat, I think of the day my kids were born.”
Luckily for Lopez, all of the time she’s spent collecting clothing over the years should go to good use, as her eight-year-old daughter Emme has expressed an interest in fashion. “She was wearing my shoes as soon as she started walking. She’s actually learning to sew already,” the proud mother revealed. “Who knows? We may have a little designer on our hands.”
