With the Deadpool franchise off to the races and a seemingly endless line of prestigious gigs in the works, Ryan Reynolds is not struggling to find jobs these days, but that doesn’t mean he gets every role he chases. The 40-year-old recently sat down with fellow thespian Taraji P. Henson to swap stories for Variety’s “Actors on Actors,” where he opened up about one cringe-worthy audition he won’t soon forget.
“I auditioned and failed for the Coen brothers,” he said. “It wasn’t the right fit, mostly because they’re very high class.”
Reynolds then playfully exaggerated the atmosphere in the room during the awkward encounter: “They were just quietly shaking their heads, like, ‘What are you doing here? Do you have a SAG card, or do you have the Canadian version?'”
“I’m not that actress that wants to do everything,” she said. “When I got [the script], I was like, ‘This is Kerry Washington.'”
