During Sterling K. Brown‘s character, Randall’s mushroom induced flashback, viewers watched as a young Randall laid on top of Ventimiglia’s character, Jack’s back as he did pushups to prove to his son that he will always support him, no matter what. While the scene was a pretty emotional moment for the show, Ventimiglia admitted to Ellen DeGeneres it sparked a bit of a competition between him and his male costars.
“Then backstage, we thought ‘Hey wouldn’t it be funny if you know, we put Sterling on my back and see how many pushups I can do?'” he told the host when he stopped by Ellen. “Which turned into, hey lets put Sterling on Justin Hartley‘s back and hey, let’s put Justin on Sterling’s back.”
Ventimiglia then asked DeGeneres if she wanted to join in on the fun, to which she replied, “I’d love to get on your back while you do a pushup.” Ventimiglia proceeded to hilariously recreate the scene with DeGeneres on his back. Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for the host when it was her turn to do the pushups.
