Whether you were a fan of Shannen Doherty prior to her breast cancer diagnosis, it’s impossible to deny how positive and honest she has been about the difficult process. Time and again she has embraced the struggle and readily shared her story. Yesterday (Dec. 15, 2016), she tactfully responded to a stranger’s “horrified” reaction to a casual conversation about her radiation treatment.

“Today, we were in an elevator and I was asked how I was feeling,” she captioned a photo of herself and husband Kurt Iswarienko in the car. “I responded by saying that I had just gotten a radiation treatment so therefore tired. The random girl on the elevator with us physically lunged away as far as she could. She then proceeded to look horrified for the next 3 floors [sic].”

The TV star went to clarify that, just in case you didn’t know, radiation isn’t contagious: “Just a heads up… 1. You can’t catch it 2. The radiation won’t leak out of me and go into you. Hope that helps.”

Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and revealed in August of this year that cancer has spread to her lymph nodes. But the actress continues to fight the good fight while attempting to return to normalcy as often as possible. Earlier this week, she shared a photo of herself and her mother at a radiation appointment before going Christmas shopping.
