According to the “Side to Side” singer, she “loved and adored” the rapper even prior to their meeting. In her cover story with Cosmopolitan for their April 2017 issue, Grande admitted to swooning over her would-be boyfriend from afar.
“I met him when I was 19. We have loved and adored and respected each other since the beginning, since before we even met, just because we were fans of each other’s talent,” she said. “We weren’t ready at all, though, to be together. It’s just timing.”
The couple first met when they teamed up for their 2013 collaboration, “My Way.” After Grande broke things off with backup dancer Ricky Alvzrez last year, the two became romantically involved when they reconnected for their latest single, “My Favorite Part.”
Though Grande is happily dating Miller these days, she insisted she doesn’t need a man by her side to feel fulfilled.
“I’ve never looked at love as something that I need to complete me. I would like to be complete on my own first and fall in love with somebody who is also complete,” she shared. “You can still celebrate and be totally obsessed with each other, but I want to feel a hundred percent myself so that I can love that person better.”
The 23-year-old added that being true to herself is her top priority, saying, “A lot of times, women are labeled as a bitch or a diva for having a vision and being strong and using their voice, and it’s just not the case. You can be strong and be friendly. [We] don’t have to be just one thing.”
The feeling seems mutual for Miller, too. Last September, the 25-year-old confessed to falling “in love” with the songstress.
“Just because we are two people who are in love and have a great relationship doesn’t mean I am going to get weird about this incredible music we make,” he said in a radio interview. “That is a true thing in my life … She is amazing.”
