Whether you’ve been following Amanda Bynes’ story attentively from the very beginning or just skimming headlines of her latest experiences now and then, you probably know that she’s been through a lot during her time in the spotlight.
From her struggles with mental health and addiction to homophobic scandals, Amanda’s life took a distinct turn in the early 2010s. And although she appears to be much more stable now, many are more concerned.
Although Amanda has just gotten treatment in a sober living facility, she emerged looking a little… different.
Although the 2010s were a wild and clearly difficult time for Amanda, she emerged from the decade seemingly in a much better place than she was when she entered them. In a 2018 interview with Paper Magazine, she explained her hardships with addiction.
In the interview, she explains that she started smoking marijuana when she was only sixteen, and that she eventually turned to harder drugs.
“Even though everyone thought I was the ‘good girl,’ I did smoke marijuana from that point on,” she revealed. “I didn’t get addicted [then] and I wasn’t abusing it. And I wasn’t going out and partying or making a fool of myself…yet.”
She explained that she was also addicted to Adderall for a time.
“Later on it progressed to doing molly and ecstasy,” she revealed. “[I tried] cocaine three times but I never got high from cocaine. I never liked it. It was never my drug of choice. I definitely abused Adderall.”
But Amanda claimed she had been sober for “almost four years now” in the 2018 interview. However, she went on to enter a sober living facility in 2019, where she was treated for her mental health difficulties and was routinely drug tested. When she left, she had a totally new look.
Amanda posted this new picture with nothing but an alien emoji. In it, she has a tattoo of a small heart on her cheek.
This isn’t the only new look Amanda has been showing off. She also posted this shot of her with vibrant green hair, captioning it “Geisha girl vibes,” which some found offensive.
At age 33, Amanda is currently under a conservatorship controlled by her mother Lynn. She also recently graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles.
According to Page Six, Amanda’s lawyer also confirmed that she was fielding offers to appear in new films and television shows, but that she hadn’t taken any as of 2018.
