Movie star Brad Pitt nearly escaped death when participating in a controversial drug detox method. He was recruited by the church of Scientology, and was chosen to participate in something called the “purification rundown.”
Radar Online spoke to ex-scientologist, Sam Domingo for this inside scoop. Domingo was a member of the church for 22 years before leaving in 2004. She said that Pitt was involved in this incident in the early 90s.
Members called this detox method the “sweat box,” and it’s just as awful as it sounds. “Brad was recruited in the 1990s during the time he and Juliette Lewis did a movie together,” Domingo told Radar. “That’s when he was put on the purification rundown.”
The detox is “a program where they basically load you up with vitamins and you sit in the sauna and sweat for five hours a day,” Domingo explained.
This can be very dangerous for many reasons, a major threat being dehydration. “At least four kids have died on these programs,” said Domingo.
Radar reported that Pitt was involved in this same ritual. Jenna Miscavage Hill, the niece of the leader of Scientology, claimed similar happenings in her memoir. She claimed the organization was “obsessed” with recruiting famous people, which could be the reason Pitt joined.
Domingo told the outlet that she thinks the dangerous detox is what drove the actor over the edge.
“He left! They weren’t able to keep Brad,” she said.
Radar also reported that Juliette Lewis also struggled with drug addiction and her mental health, but claims she’s been sober for over 40 years.
