She’s every woman.
Cardi B took the hip-hop world by storm, breaking records and exceeding everyone’s expectations. Even after she became pregnant unexpectedly, the star did not slow down. For this reason and more, the rapper is a “woman amount women” and an evergreen person of interest.
The 25-year-old performer sat down with W Magazine, spilling details about her experience as a mom and her relationship with Nicki Minaj.
“When I got pregnant, I was f**king freaking out,” Cardi B revealed. “Everybody around me was like, ‘No, this never happened before. Every artist that had a baby, they already put in years in the game. This is your first year. You’re going to mess it up. How are you going to make it?'”
The New York native made it by refusing to slow down, continuing to perform and record. All while carrying young Kulture Kiari, Cardi released her debut album Invasion of Privacy, performed at Coachella and eloped with her then-fiancé Offset.
“While I was pregnant, I kept telling myself, I can’t wait till I’m back out there. I’m going to look hot, and I’m going to be that b***h,” she added.
Unfortunately, motherhood took her by surprise. About a month after giving birth, the star revealed she “couldn’t even squat down.” Because of this, she had to gracefully bow out of Bruno Mars’ world tour.
“People don’t really talk about what you go through after pregnancy. Like, they don’t tell you that you get stitches down there or that your first two weeks you’re constipated. Or that you get contractions because of breastfeeding. I wasn’t expecting that,” Cardi said. “When Kulture was born, I felt like I was a kid again; everything was making me cry, and I needed a lot of love. I be feeling like, ‘Do babies know who’s they mom?’ I feel like babies love whoever is giving them the milk, and I want to give the milk the whole time. I want her to know me.”
She added that she feels “better now,” but that she feels “vulnerable” at times.
