Demi Lovato has just confirmed to the world that they are non-binary and will be using they/them pronouns going forward.
They’re speaking out about their identity as well as their decision to come out publicly, and their fans are teeming with support.
Demi Lovato confirmed in a tweet today that they are nonbinary.
“Today is a day I’m so happy to share more of my life with you all- I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary & will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward,” they tweeted with a sparkling heart emoji.
Demi shared that their coming out was not a snap decision.
“This has come after a lot of healing & self-reflective work. I’m still learning & coming into myself, & I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson,” they penned. “Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me.”
“I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones,” they added. “Please keep living in your truths & know I am sending so much love your way xox”
Demi’s childhood friend Miley Cyrus is also nonbinary, and identifies as genderfluid.
“I’m just equal,” Miley, who uses she/her pronouns, told TIME. “I’m just even. It has nothing to do with any parts of me or how I dress or how I look. It’s literally just how I feel.”
