The Duggars are in hot what with TLC again. Just when we thought the family was finally moving on from Josh Duggar‘s molestation scandal that ultimately led to the cancellation of 19 Kids and Counting, another controversy involving Jill Duggar‘s husband, Derick Dillard, has broken out and fans are in an uproar over it. We don’t know what this means for the future of Counting On, but things certainly don’t look good for the growing clan.
Jill Duggar‘s husband, Derick Dillard, caused an uproar among loyal TLC viewers when he publicly lashed out at transgender teen Jazz Jennings, who has her own show on the network.
When TLC tweeted promotional image for I Am Jazz, the 28-year-old Counting On star responded with a controversial tweet reading, “What an oxymoron… a ‘reality’ show which follows a non-reality. ‘Transgender’ is a myth. Gender is not fluid; it’s ordained by God.”
In another tweet, Derick also purposefully used the wrong pronoun to describe the 16-year-old, who identifies as a girl. “I want to be clear. I have nothing against him,” he wrote. “I only have issue with the words and definitions being propagated here.”
Many people were quick to criticize the father-of-two for his insensitive statements. “Is it necessary for a grown man to throw shade at a teenage girl?” one Twitter user wrote.
Others questioned his logic, asking, “Derick had jaw surgery recently. But wasn’t his wonky jaw ordained by God? Why did he have to go get his God – given jaw fixed?”
Amid the uproar, TLC released a statement regarding Derick’s tweets. “Derick Dillard’s personal statement does not represent the views of TLC,” a rep for the network said.
Though Jazz has yet to release an official statement of her own, she did retweet a message from a fan reading: “Very hypocritical of your family to profit from a network which airs content against your beliefs. Don’t like it? Don’t associate with it.”
