Erika Jayne announced her split from her husband on November 3. She and her husband were together for a whopping 21 years, but not even their marriage could stand the stress of 2020. Although it initially seemed like the two had just grown apart, it was rumored that both of them may have been cheating on one another.
A source claimed their relationship had long been “unconventional,” which leads us to question the arrangement the two had agreed upon. Erika made it known that she never signed a prenup with Tom, and now she’s trying to get spousal support from him.
Last week, Erika Jayne announced that she is filing for divorce from Tom Girardi. E! News broke the news this afternoon, and we were left with a lot of questions.
“After much consideration, I have decided to end my marriage to Tom Girardi,” the reality star told E!. “This is not a step taken lightly or easily. I have great love and respect for Tom and for our years and the lives we built together.”
She continued to explain how she and her now-ex plan to move forward.
“It is my absolute wish to proceed through this process with respect and with the privacy that both Tom and I deserved,” Erika added. “I request others give us that privacy as well.”
The couple met in 1999 while Erika was waitressing in West Hollywood. Tom was a frequent patron of the establishment and eventually slipped her his number. They got engaged only six months after their initial meeting.
Erika told Andy Cohen back in 2017 that she does not have a prenup, which may make things difficult with future divorce proceedings.
“Let me tell you something, let me be very clear. I’m married to a very powerful lawyer,” Erika told the Watch What Happens Live host. “A prenup wouldn’t stand in his way anyway…It’s gonna be all Tom’s way, I assure you. He’ll rip that piece of paper to shreds in two seconds!”
InTouch later revealed the true reason behind the split. According to the source, the Erika and Tom “were more like very close friends than husband and wife.”
They elaborated by explaining that everything came to a head during the COVID-19 lockdown.
“Erika and Tom have led separate lives for years,” the source told the outlet. “[She] would go off touring and doing her own thing, and Tom would do his.”
The two realized that things weren’t working out during quarantine, especially since they were stuck with one another.
“The pandemic is having a mental impact on everyone, and Erika’s been reflecting on what she wants moving forward. Being married to Tom isn’t part of her plan,” the source said.
And now, more information has come out about the divorce proceedings. It appears Erika will be seeking spousal support from her ex, but without a prenup it is questionable what she will end up with.
