"It just feels like she got stomped all over and drained of any life..."
Joy-Anna Duggar has found herself in yet another scandal. After spending months dodging rumors that she had conceived her first child with Austin Forsyth out of wedlock, the 20-year-old is caught in more controversy as fans accuse her husband of being “emotionally abusive” and “controlling” behind closed doors.
Some followers of the Counting On clan believe the new mom has been “brainwashed” by conservative patriarch Jim-Bob Duggar, causing her to be “vulnerable to domestic abuse.” As one person bluntly puts it: “It just feels like she got stomped all over and drained of any life, and now she’s on autopilot doing what she’s supposed to be doing because the only fulfillment she has a chance at is making her family and God proud of her.”
Just when you thought Joy-Anna Duggar‘s shotgun wedding rumors have been put to rest, the reality star has been dragged into yet another scandal. Fans of the Counting On clan are voicing their concerns for the 20-year-old after some accused her husband, Austin Forsyth, of being “emotionally abusive”
As In Touch pointed out, Redditors began expressing their worries for Joy-Anna, who just welcomed her first child — son Gideon Martyn — in February, when they noticed her husband acting strangely on their TLC show.
“I think Austin is a creep. I really think he is at the very least emotionally abusive,” user @crazykak commented. “He seems super controlling and Joy just looks to him for answers to everything. She is so used to obeying her parents without question, and being so young and brainwashed makes her so vulnerable to domestic abuse. She was so indecisive with wedding details and seems like a really naive little girl.”
Out of Line
“He’s a 100% in the right place to be atleast [sic] emotionally abusive, since Joy does not have a mind of her own and always looks to him whenever they are asked a question,” user @shifa_xx agreed, explaining that the 24-year-old “sounds way more creepier and controlling” compare to other Duggar son-in-laws.
“I just feel so bad for Joy that it’s actually hard for me to keep up with her now,” @soynugget95 remarked. “It just feels like she got stomped all over and drained of any life, and now she’s on autopilot doing what she’s supposed to be doing because the only fulfillment she has a chance at is making her family and God proud of her.”
Meanwhile, @feelingmyage speculated that “talks down” to Joy-Anna “when she ‘gets out of line.'”
A few were also quick to highlight that Austin’s family seemingly condones the use of corporal punishment to teach children how to behave. His parents recently invited Michael and Debi Pearl, who authored the controversial child-rearing book To Train Up a Child, to speak at their Fort Rock Family Camp.
“I can see him being abusive to his Gideon and the rest of his future kids for sure because of the Pearl tips,” @crazykak wrote, while @lavendermermaid commented that they “definitely can see him belittling/talking down to [Joy-Anna] if he gets annoyed or she does something he doesn’t like.”
