Not cool, Internet!
Say it ain’t so! Meghan Markle has become the latest victim of hackers leaking NSFW photos online. While the royal family has had their fair share of scandals over the years, but it’s never looked quite like this before. The alleged images of the future princess were shared as a “preview” over on Celeb Jihad ― who are infamous for circulating intimate photos of celebrities in the buff ― with a promise of more to come.
Can the already controversial choice for a future monarch overcome this scandal as gracefully as she has the others?
Meghan Markle’s journey into the arms of Prince Harry is as close to a fairy-tale as any American woman could imagine, but things have been hard for her since the couple went public last year. The Suits star has found herself at the center of numerous hateful controversies surrounding her family, her career, her nationality, and her race, but they’ve never looked quite like this.
The actress and princess-to-be has found herself in the middle of another possible scandal ― and definite violation of her privacy ― as notorious celebrity photo site Celeb Jihad has leaked what they say are topless photos of the star online.
The Blast reported yesterday (March 15, 2018) that the site released four photos of Markle in partial undress alongside claims that there are more to come unless their (fake) extremist demands are met. While Kensington Palace has released a statement saying that the photos of Markle are fakes, the site seems to think they look real enough to fool people and have published a satirical list of demands to stop the rest of the photos from being published.
“Demand #1: The immediate withdrawal of all UK troops from Muslim holy lands.
Demand #2: The abdication of her throne by the Queen in favor of the rightful ruler of the future Caliphate of Britainstan, Muslim Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.
Demand #3: The delivery of no less than 3 dozen of the finest sheep in England (to be judged by both the fullness of their coats, and the attractiveness of their hindquarters) to a yet to be disclosed location on the Syrian/Iraqi border.”
While the site bills itself as a true Islamic extremist run site aimed at exposing Hollywood stars, The Daily Beast has interviewed its founder and determined that it’s likely not.
Meanwhile, there is some good news out of Meghan’s camp as news broke just yesterday that Queen Elizabeth II has given the young couple her blessing to tie the knot. Yeah, it’s not as sweet as it sounds. While we’re sure that the queen approves of Meghan as a match for her grandson, the law in the UK says that she has to give her approval (or, not, I guess) in order to the marriage to take place. According to a 2013 piece of legislature, the Queen must approve all matches for the first six people in line for the throne. Harry is fifth in line, after his older brother Prince William.
The “blessing” of it all was straight to the point according to documents obtained by People. She wrote,
“My Lords, I declare My Consent to a Contract of Matrimony between My Most Dearly Beloved Grandson Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales and Rachel Meghan Markle, which Consent I am causing to be signified under the Great Seal and to be entered in the Books of the Privy Council.”
