The first episode of Jersey Shore aired in 2009. It was a different time back then, before TikTok, and – yes – even before Instagram. Needless to say, the reality TV landscape has changed quite a deal back then, but it looks like MTV is trying to cash in on one of its longest standing franchises anyway.
Milions tuned in for Jersey Shore: Family Reunion, for the nostalgia factor, but now MTV has revealed that they’re starting with a blank slate: a Jersey Shore reboot with an entirely new cast.
MTV has just released its 2022-2023 lineup, including a number of reboots, continuations, and spinoffs of its major shows.
Among them is a Jersey Shore reboot cleverly named Jersey Shore 2.0, which MTV confirmed in a new release.
“It’s been 13 years since the iconic cast of Jersey Shore fist-pumped their way into our lives and stole our hearts,” MTV announced. “Now, the time-honored tradition continues with a new group of roommates moving into their own Shore house.”
“They may have traded their poofs for plumped pouts and UV rays for spray tans, but when things heat up in Jersey, the Shore is still the place to be to make memories all summer long,” reads the release.
However, the network is facing some issues finding where to film, considering how raucous the reputation of the show is.
According to The Sun, a lead candidate for filming, the borough of Lavallette said “no” on Monday.
“Oh no, please no Snooki,” one resident reportedly said.
A local businessman reportedly said: “It’s great – it’s great for my business – but at the same time we want to defend the integrity of the town and not destroy it with all this other nonsense.”
In the meantime, Jersey Shore Family Reunion has been renewed for its sixth season, and MTV has also confirmed a number of Teen Mom spinoffs as well.
