It’s a sad day in the hip-hop world. Nearly a month away from the 1-year anniversary of Nipsey Hussle’s death, hip-hop mourns the loss of another rapper. Pop Smoke, who was up-and-coming and well on his way to becoming the next big star was tragically killed. He was 20 years old.
On Wednesday (Feb. 18) morning, Pop Smoke became the victim of what’s said to be a home invasion robbery, according to TMZ. Two masked men wearing hoodies, broke into Pop Smoke’s Hollywood Hills home around 4:30 a.m., while the rapper was at home.
The news outlet reports that the two men fired multiple shots that ended up hitting and killing the rapper. The men then ran away from the house on foot.
An ambulance arrived and Pop Smoke was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in West Hollywood where he was pronounced dead. So far, the shooters haven’t been identified nor have they been caught. However, there was one man that police put in handcuffs, but it wasn’t clarified if he had anything to do with the incident or not.
Pop Smoke just got into music in 2018 after hanging around other musicians’ studio sessions. He rose to popularity after the release of his breakout single, “Welcome to the Party,” off of his debut mixtape, Meet the Woo (2019), which was eventually remixed featuring Nicki Minaj and Skepta. The rapper was also featured on Travis Scott’s JackBoys‘ 2019 album.
On February 7, Pop released his second mixtape, Meet the Woo 2, which features Quavo, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Gunna, and PnB Rock.
