Their relationship has been in trouble for months, but shocking new details keep emerging. Did she go too far with this?
The newest member of the Teen Mom OG cast is no stranger to drama. The mother-of-three rose to notoriety in 2008 when her mother, Sarah Palin, announced her teen pregnancy at the Republican National Convention.
In the following years, Bristol Palin drew heat for her homophobic comments and hypocritical support for abstinence-only birth control.
She popped back into the spotlight in July when she announced that she would be joining MTV’s hit franchise. Her arc on the show will focus on the demise of her troubled marriage.
In the Teen Mom OG premiere, Dakota and Bristol have a heart wrenching conversation about the reasons behind their pending divorce.
“We’re both unhappy. I was a single mom for a long time,” Bristol explains, “but being married, I’m more lonely now than I’ve ever been.”
“I think that we don’t know how to coexist together, at all,” she confesses.
“99% of our problems in this family, in our marriage is my anxiety and my PTSD, whether you want to believe or justify it or not,” Dakota responds.
Bristol then apologizes for becoming “cold” but admits that she thinks the two are “better people when we’re not together.”
It seems like the relationship had been doomed from the start. In 2015, the Celebrity Wife Swap alum announced her second pregnancy in a depressing blog post, writing, “I know this has been, and will be, a huge disappointment to my family, to my close friends, and to many of you…I do not want any lectures and I do not want any sympathy.” At the time, she did not confirm the identity of the baby’s father.
Just a month earlier, she called off her wedding to outspoken veteran Dakota Meyer, only days before they were set to walk down the aisle. Reports circulated that she found out he had a secret marriage to another woman.
After Sailor Grace’s birth late in 2015, a nasty custody battle followed between the reality star and the Medal of Honor recipient. Dakota opened up about the difficult time in a lengthy Instagram post this week.
“In response to the conversation Bristol had on a video on the @teenmom IG,” he began. “Yes, we got pregnant right after our engagement. We planned a wedding with our families and friends and Bristol decided to leave me a week prior.”
The 30-year-old continued, “I spoke with her family every month and made it clear I would be the father of my child. I reached out to her before Sailor was born and asked what the plan was to co parent. She told me to go through the courts to establish paternity.”
