… in front of his mother, Cleopatra Bernard.
With the BET Hip Hop Award’s airdate right around the corner, rumors of what the pre-recorded event will consist of are coming in slowly but surely. Front and center is news that Jay-Z’s signed artist Vic Mensa bashed XXXTentacion… in front of his mother Cleopatra Bernard.
Mensa is subsequently being dragged through the mud for the “fowl” move. The rapper responded to the backlash, but he did not apologize for his stance.
According to reports the diss came out of Mensa’s mouth during his turn of the award show’s freestyle. Gabe “DJ Scheme” Guerra responded to the bars on Twitter, tweeting, “F**k Vic Mensa.” “When y’all hear Vic Mensas f**king freestyle at the BET awards y’all are going to be f**king disgusted. @VicMensa SUCK MY D**K,” he continued.
“Yo bro how u gone say ‘Your favorite rapper is an abuser’ and then follow it with a line saying ‘some s**t X some s**t so I won’t live long’ u can deny it but everyone who was there heard that s**t,’” Scheme added the next day.
The disc jockey’s tweet started a rally of fans bashing Mensa. In response, the 25-year-old artist posted an Instagram video, standing by his statements, saying, “I vehemently reject the trend in hip hop of championing abusers and I will not hold my tongue about it.”
“Protect women. Domestic & sexual abuse are not excusable because you have talent or you are troubled. With that said I was not aware his mother would be in attendance & I offer her my deepest condolences,” he captioned the post.
Still, the masses bashed Mensa.
“His attack just comes off in bad taste bc 1. xxx ain’t here to even receive the message 2. xxx was growing as a person and was really about spreading love at the end of his life. maybe vic didn’t know, but it comes off as Not A Good Look in any case,” a Twitter user posted. “Speak out about what you believe in but there’s no need to attack a single person,” another added.
